THE SIGNALS BEHIND IT
MOVEMENT
A snapshot of your Oura export—not a live connection. Measurements are estimates, not diagnoses. Baselines use available readings from the prior 28 calendar days, excluding the selected day; at least 10 readings are required.
THE DETAIL · SELECTED DAY
A little more context for your day, and the questions worth looking into.

YOUR SLEEP · ESTIMATED
The longest session assigned to this export day.
Being able to get through a day and feeling involved in it are different things. Ambient dissociation is a proposed way to investigate that difference alongside how people apply biological knowledge to themselves.
A CLOSER LOOK
Your ring estimates sleep and heart signals. They describe aspects of a recorded session—not how connected or capable you felt.
Only you can report your experience. A brief check-in may capture how involved an activity felt; it is not an objective test of bodily awareness.
Not in the Oura exportTask performance requires its own defined observation: the activity, conditions, accuracy, and effort. Continuing a task alone does not prove capacity is unchanged.
No task measure in this datasetOPTIONAL · EXPLORATORY
Record your own impressions for the selected export day. Responses are not a validated ambient-dissociation measure and are never converted into a score.
Private to this browser, not a secure vault. Saved only on this device and browser, without sync. Anyone using this browser can see it; clearing site data removes it. Avoid shared devices. The recorded time is shown so a retrospective entry is not mistaken for a real-time report.
A RESEARCH DIRECTION
Choose a repeatable task and collect a performance measure under comparable conditions. A daily step count is not a proxy for task performance.
Collect experience and expectations close to the activity, with timestamps. Assess biological self-understanding separately; it is not the same as feeling present.
Predefine an outcome, alternative explanations, missing-data rules and a comparison with simpler models. Repeat across people and settings before using any composite.
THE RESEARCH NOTEBOOK
These are candidate ways to organize a future study—not validated metrics, and not values computed from this export.
The question: Can a person’s reported involvement vary while performance on a specific task remains similar?
Possible observations: Task name and conditions; accuracy or another pre-specified outcome; a separately timed report of involvement and effort. Repeated observations could be displayed side by side, without subtracting unlike scales or treating either as ground truth for the other.
What this export can supply: Sleep and activity context. It contains neither a comparable task outcome nor a contemporaneous involvement report. No divergence can be calculated here.
The question: Do people apply biological and environmental explanations differently to their own expectations than to general cases?
Possible observations: Responses to matched, independently developed scenarios about general human performance and the person’s own expectations, recorded separately from subjective presence. Establish clarity, reliability, and competing explanations before interpreting a difference.
Current status: No validated scoring rule or scenario instrument has been established in this prototype. The optional question above is a reflection, not a substitute.
The question: How do recorded sleep and heart measurements vary around separately observed experience and task outcomes?
Available now: A selected value and a prior 28-calendar-day mean, excluding that day, when at least 10 readings exist. These comparisons describe the ring’s estimate; they do not establish why a change occurred or whether it was good.
Next study: Define timing and missingness before pairing observations, evaluate day-to-day reliability, and test whether the proposed framework improves on simpler explanations such as sleep opportunity, task conditions and mood.
A design proposal, not an integration: Each future observation should carry a pseudonymous person ID, observation time and timezone, measurement window, source, unit, quality, and missing-data reason. Experience, task outcomes, environmental context and device estimates remain distinct records.
Any cross-dashboard adapter would need documented mapping, consent, access controls, retention and deletion rules, and independent validation. This static site connects to no external dashboards.
EVIDENCE & LIMITS
Self-reported attention to bodily sensations and performance on detection tasks are distinct constructs. Their definitions and measurements remain contested.
Desmedt et al. · Interoception ↗In a controlled sleep-restriction study, attention deficits accumulated while reported sleepiness increased much less after the first few days. This is not a test of your alertness.
Van Dongen et al. · Sleep, 2003 ↗In one laboratory study, Oura Gen 2 was more accurate at distinguishing sleep from wake than at distinguishing sleep stages. Device and context matter.
Miller et al. · Sensors, 2022 ↗THE LONG VIEW
Choose a measurement and select a day to view its record.
Darker blue means a higher number, not a better result. For sleep heart rate, lower can be favorable relative to your usual range, but context matters. HRV, steps, sleep length and workout counts are not universal health grades either. A dot marks a recorded workout; missing readings are not zero, and no workout record doesn’t prove no exercise occurred.

Recorded-day averages. Tap any month for the full calendar.
Sparse months can be misleading. Longest sleep is one session, not necessarily all sleep in a day.

THE DISCOVERY LAB
Compare readings from the same or following export day.
Values are grouped around the median of available pairs. Next-day comparisons require consecutive export dates. Readiness includes previous-day activity and other inputs, so comparisons with those inputs are not independent tests. Work schedules, missing data, and other changes can affect both measures.
THE 2025 SHIFT LENS
Jason reported working at a hospital from approximately 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., alongside a remote job from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The hospital schedule began around June 2025 and ended around September or October.
| Calendar period | Readiness | Longest sleep | Sleep HRV | Lowest sleep HR | Steps |
|---|
Exact start, end and workdays are unknown. October cannot be assumed to be after the job. Counts vary by measure. Calendar changes may have other explanations.

RESEARCH AND CONTEXT
In a study involving 48 healthy adults, four or six hours in bed per night for 14 days led to cumulative performance deficits, while reported sleepiness rose much less after the first few days. The study did not measure Jason’s alertness or total sleep.
Van Dongen et al. · Sleep, 2003 ↗NIOSH describes planned naps before night shifts as one option for improving alertness. Timing and feasibility depend on the schedule; allow for grogginess after waking before safety-sensitive work.
NIOSH · Napping Before Nights ↗In one laboratory night with 53 healthy adults, Oura Gen 2 agreed with polysomnography for 89% of sleep/wake intervals and 61% when distinguishing sleep stages and wake. Results may differ for other devices and daytime sleep.
Miller et al. · Sensors, 2022 ↗THE FINE PRINT
Oura measurements are estimates, not clinical tests. Sleep and heart metrics use the longest sleep session on each Oura export day. Multiple sessions and oxygen readings are preserved under Original Records. Missing measurements are excluded, not treated as zero. These comparisons describe one record; they cannot establish cause.
